Food Worker Card Train the Trainer Program

Meet the trainer requirements, attend a Train the Trainer class and receive your materials to begin holding the Food Worker Card class in-house. As a trainer you will play the video, answer participant questions and monitor the test-taking process. The answer sheets are then mailed to the WRA (with a $10 fee per test) to be scored and processed. Permits are mailed back to you, the trainer.

To Become a Trainer

  • Must have two years of foodservice experience or equivalent
  • Must be a trainer, supervisor, manager, or owner for your facility
  • Have a current Washington State Food Handler's Card at all times
  • Have a current ServSafe Certification at all times
  • Attend the Train the Trainer course (link to classes)
  • Receive your approval letter from the WRA Education Foundation

Once Approved as a Food Worker Card Trainer:

  • You can begin scheduling Food Worker Card classes for your facility. Classes must be reported at least 48 hours in advance.
  • You will receive (or need to purchase) the following class training kit including:
    • Food Worker Card training DVD or VHS
    • Food Safety is Everybody's Business manual
    • Participant study guide
    • One copy of the Food Worker Card test
    • 20 blank Scantron answer sheets

To Maintain Your Training Status:

  • Your Food Handler Card must remain current
  • Your ServSafe Certification must remain current
  • You must attend the Train the Trainer course annually
